There’s nothing quite so satisfying as being able to immerse yourself in total darkness before seeing a crystal clear studio logo pop onto the big screen while a blast of DTS digital surround sound overtakes your senses and rumbles beneath you. You are experiencing the rush of watching a movie in a theater. But not just any theater, it’s your home theater.

That’s right. No one kicking the seat behind you, throwing candy at your head or talking on the phone during the best scenes-if they do you can kick them out yourself!

You can get a much more satisfying movie experience in your own home and avoid some of the pitfalls of bigger theaters. Not only the annoyances listed previously, but there’s also the factors of cost and convenience.

With the price of a movie ticket running somewhere around $10, plus the cost of snacks, you could easily afford your own home theater just by skipping those evenings out for a year or two. Depending on how expensive your tastes are possibly even sooner than that. And there’s no need to wait for the 7 o’clock showing or stand in line; you can start, stop and schedule your movie showings whenever it’s convenient for you.

We’re pretty excited about the idea of a theater at home and we’d been designing our perfect escape since before we bought our house. We were just looking for the perfect house to fit our dreams. We found it a few years ago and proceeded to design our dream theater with gusto. We had most of our cinema equipment (just needing a few finishing touches like the 5.1 digital surround and more monster cables) so we dug into planning everything from the home theater furniture arrangement and style, to carpet color and decor, to the large hinged wall with secret escape route (doesn’t every kid want one?) While making our decisions we looked at a lot of home theater pictures to get better ideas of what was possible.

By doing most of it ourselves we saved thousands of dollars but it also took about a year to “finish.” Well, it’s finished enough for us to enjoy, we are always working on the little touches here and there. Many people hire professionals to design and build their theaters, which saves a lot of time (but not always money.)

After a long hard day at work, or an evening of frustrating parenting, the need to escape reality can become overwhelming. Being able to drop ourselves into complete darkness and seclusion and then immerse ourselves in a full senses banquet of sights and sounds from Hollywood we can quickly forget our own headaches and get wrapped up in the big screen. Those two hours are sanity savers without ever needing to leave the house (or get candy thrown at our heads).

The next step in the project was to find the perfect plasma tv stand for our theater setup, but that’s another dicussion.

A lot of phone companies don’t exactly give large download limits. Don’t make the mistake of seeing the large dollar value for calls and SMS and thinking that it can be used for data. 5. Get a pre-paid mobile

If you don’t make many calls maybe you should think about getting a pre-paid mobile. Pre-paid phones have higher call rates and often you have to buy the phone outright but if you make very little calls then they will save you plenty. 6. Buy your phone outright

The first letter of a particular name can be entered on the Qwerty keyboard which will make that particular name appear on the screen. Not so long ago the first landline phones were released, these phones used finger dialling and they took the world by storm, people were able to communicate with people in other countries. The negative thing about landlines, especially if you are using a cordless phone is that you cant be too far away from the actual unit otherwise you will lose signal.

In the end only time will tell what is going to happen. Lets wait and see what occurs in the next few years.

As we all are aware we are in the middle of a huge financial crisis. This has led to big companies slashing the amount of people that they employ in call centres. Only recently Sky was featured on the BBC channel Watchdog, the main complaints were against their call waiting times.

People are just way to busy in this day and age, they just do not have the time to spend on the phone. When people call up a company they dont want to be sitting around for hours on hold, instead they want to be put through as soon as possible. There are two things that companies are doing these days:

1) They make it so hard to actually get through to a human being, they have so many options to choose from and if you end up choosing the wrong one they briefly give you a message and then hang the phone up on you, which can become extremely annoying.

2) Once you do finally manage to get through to the section where you can speak to some one they leave you on hold for up to two hours.

This is also one of the main factors as to why Sky were investigated by the Watchdogs. On one occasion they left people waiting on hold for almost 3 hours which is a huge amount. I do know that businesses are finding it very difficult at the moment, but they need to pull something out of the hat before they all leave. The way around this would be for companies to get a freephone 0800 number, the reason behind this is because they could then actually show their clients that we want your call, we are just busy at the moment but if you stay on hold we are willing to pay for the entire wait.
