For a good ranking in search engines especially in Google links from other websites to the own site are very important. There are several types of links and it is always good to know something about it.
If you find a website with witch you want to exchange links contact the webmaster and offer him a link from your website. If he agrees you get a backlink from his site to your site. Those links are reciprocal links or Two Way Links. You should make sure that you get links from related websites, it will be better appreciated by Google. By the way a Two Way Link is not very important for a good position in Google, sure it is still better than no link. Google loves One Way Links. This is a link from another site to your site and there is no link from your website to the other site. Web directories give you such links. But they contribute less and less to a high-quality ranking. One Way Links would be of course again the best of a competing website because they are very related. You sure have problems to find somebody who gives you a link for nothing in return.
