These days every single person in the world uses technology at least one time or another to communicate. Whether it's a phone call, text message or web access.

As technology develops one step ahead, we are going to see a huge shake up in how people communicate. You may have heard of twitter which is basically a new concept communication tool, media coverage around the site has exploded simply because of the fact that it's a free and cool way to communicate with people.

I mean people are beginning to get fed up and so annoyed with mobile phones charging huge amounts to consumers, I mean you ring a freephone 0800 number and your mobile provider charges you a fortune. Well I believe in a few years these mobile phone providers may lose out.

Because there is a huge upcoming buzz in the form of IP telephony that gives near enough free calls. Telecoms providers are getting very worried about VoIP, we have already seen the major networks block access to them.

But with the current credit crisis and economic downturn in full swing it is only a matter of time until people get fed up and just switch to VoiP. VoIP is still a baby product and has a while to go until it hits the global market, but when it does a huge amount of people will begin using it. But I can guarantee that these companies will find a way of charging the public. There is entirley no way in the world that a government would allow the phone industry to collapse.

Going to an overseas destination is something that a lot of families do at least once a year, people go away to relax unwind and spend some of their hard earned money. One question that is always asked is it worth it to bring your handset with you on holiday. A huge amount of people have to ring home for work reasons or family reasons so they really do not have a choice in the matter.

But when dialling a phone number abroad do remember that you could be hit with a big bill when you do get back home as most providers also charge you for receiving incoming calls to your phone. So is it really worth bringing your phone abroad with you, personally I feel you should bring it for emergencies but there are a few other things you can do to keep your costs down.

1) Whilst you are abroad why not pop to the local supermarket and pick up a pay as you go handset that you can use for your stay.
2) Why not just by an international calling card abroad, I am sure that this would be the best possible method for keeping costs at a minimal. There is bound to be a telephone box in your resort if there is not one in your actual room.

Finally when going overseas remember that most service providers charge for everything, I am not too sure whether they still do it now but a few years ago if you were travelling from country to country the providers would charge you every time you switched specific networks. If you feel it is necessary to take your phone abroad then before you leave always remember to inform your providers before you go, you never know they may well offer a great deal.

One of the most annoying things is when you have a car accident you desperately need to ring your insurance which is a 0800 number, but your mobile phone provider still charges you for this. We know that ringing 0800 numbers will cost you a fortune because you will be on the line for ages.

But thanks to BT things could be changing, they have recently announced that they will be the first company in the UK to offer free 0800 number calls. This is a great move by the company, especially now we are in a big credit crunch.

There is nothing worse then trying to get hold of your broadband supplier or call a plumber when your phone says “the call will be charged at standard rate” or “You have no calling credit, please arrange a top up”.

So will other companies follow in BTs footsteps? Well only time can really tell but it is something that everyone should take note of. The public have for so long been paying ridiculous rates for free phone numbers and it is just so not acceptable at all.

Another great approach by BT is that Millions of BT customers will no longer have to pay to call numbers starting with 0870 and 0845 after Britain’s biggest landline supplier announced it would abolish call fees to the controversial numbers.

Starting on the 16 January, around 14 million customers with any of British telecoms call deals will benefit from free calls to what are normally premium rate lines.

I believe this is all thanks to the government who announced a big review of charges that are being made to a 0800 phone number, 0844 numbers and 0845 numbers. This is great news for the public but not for companies who have been making a healthy profit.
